Question

How do the static IP addresses work? Is the static IP address capable of using any of the bonded ADSL connections should one of the connections failover?

Answer

Our bonded ADSL and bonded SDSL connections get their public IP range supplied from our central bonding infrastructure. This means it is independent of the broadband lines themselves. The IP stays no matter what line goes down.

Other providers often assign IP addresses from one of the ranges that come with the broadband lines. If that particular line goes down, then you lose that address. The resilience you thought you had by bonding in the first place is gone.

Some providers will also only map IP addresses to your site using something called Network Address Translation. While we can also do this, we, as standard, do not "NAT" IP addresses, and instead provide a routed /30 or /29 public IP range, giving you a true presence on the internet. NAT'd addresses can stop you from being able to use VOIP or IPSEC VPNs, particularly if you use different providers at different sites.

An Evolving Networks bonded broadband connection gives you an unmetered, unfiltered, truly routed connection to the internet. What you then want to use if it for is up to you. We've designed it so that it doesn't matter.
